Our Story
It started with an idea and a repurposed utility room. In 2006, we launched the QB3 Garages as the first technology incubator in the UC system. While the initial idea was met with skepticism, the first start-ups proved otherwise. Out of the initial six residents, four raised Series A venture funding and a fifth was acquired for $25 million — all within the first two years.

As word spread, so did demand. We jumped on the opportunity to lease and completely transform a warehouse in San Francisco in 2013. The result was MBC BioLabs, offering laboratories, office space, meeting rooms, and a facility with millions of dollars worth of equipment. Within six months, it was at full occupancy.

Today we are humbled by the success of our resident companies. We’ve helped launch over 350 companies including cutting-edge advancements in therapies for cancer, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Disease. MBC BioLabs residents have initiated 176 clinical trials, brought over 70 products to the market and raised over $20 Billion.
With over 140 companies operating in 4 locations, we can’t wait to see what comes next.
Today we are humbled by the success of our resident companies. We’ve helped launch over 300 companies including cutting-edge advancements in therapies for cancer, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Disease. MBC BioLabs residents have brought over 250 programs to the clinic, received approval for over 17 diagnostics and raised over $16 Billion.
