In good company.

Here’s a look at the exciting work being done by MBC BioLabs residents and alumni.

Developing compounds to
improve mitochondrial health in neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson’s. In 2017 a single scientist began operations at MBC BioLabs. In the last six years, Mitokinin has received $110M in funding, were acquired by AbbVie for $655M in 2023 and are progressing into clinical trials – and this may be the first disease modifying treatment for Parkinson's. Developing in vivo gene editing therapeutics to transform patient lives. An early MBC BioLabs resident, they began with 5 people and left with 20 as they outgrew the space. The company has since expanded to 90+ employees, raised over $200M and announced partnerships with four major pharma companies. Utilizing renewable feedstocks and advanced fermentation processes to produce chemicals that are essential in everyday products like detergents, shampoos, and food emulsifiers. The company is currently closing its first large-scale deals with major consumer goods companies eager to transition to more sustainable supply chains and plans to expand its product line to include a wide range of specialty chemicals, aiming to replace petrochemicals across multiple industries. Developing Tethosomes, a new class of non-viral DNA medicines to address both hurdles that have held back the field of non-viral DNA: potency and toxicity. Engage Bio’s approach can induce high levels of tissue or tumor specific protein expression, for months and potentially years. With applications ranging from long-acting gene replacement to cancer immunotherapy, the team at Engage Bio is now charting the path toward their first human clinical programs. Cache is dedicated to ensuring that biology’s most precious insights are protected. By pioneering room temperature nucleic acid storage, Cache sets a new benchmark for financially and environmentally sustainable storage solutions in the life sciences. By reducing the burden of cold chain logistics on labs and enabling efficient, long-term preservation and retrieval of vast molecular datasets, Cache unlocks diagnostic insights and therapeutic potential for decades to come.industries. Engineers naturally occurring microbes to become sustainable fertilizer producing factories directly on the roots of plants. CEO Tim Schnabel started with one bench at MBC BioLabs in 2022 and quickly grew to 20 employees and has raised over $25M in funding. Leverages deep knowledge of the human microbiome to develop live biotherapeutic products (LBPs) and diagnostics for the prevention and treatment of a wide range of diseases including atopic diseases, women’s health, and rare pediatric indications for which limited or no treatment options exist.
